The worship at Stainbeck is varied, informal and inclusive respecting the diversity of theological understandings within the congregation. Worship on Sundays and on Thursday evenings has continued throughout lockdown on Zoom and now on Sundays is now hybrid.
We occasionally invite preachers and worship leaders from other places and denominations, some of whom we specifically ask to tell their Faith Stories. Some of these speakers may come to us from secular organizations.
We have past held other services specifically targeted for local people not familiar with traditional church worship eg Christingle and other Festival Services. We also held an annual Community Songs of Praise at which members of the community, local agencies and secular users of our building come together to sing and to speak about their work and vision for the area. This works well (attendance 90-100 people).
Coffee and tea were served in the Café Room after services; this tradition has restarted. It is an important time of fellowship greatly valued by members of the Sunday congregation.
Each Thursday from7.15 to 8.00 pm is an opportunity for mid-week prayers following varied worship patterns. It is a valued time when we can think and pray together. This service is led by the minister, different elders, or friends from our partner churches. Holy Communion is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of each month. These prayers continue on Zoom.
We use the Revised Common Lectionary to encourage continuity of teaching and fenerally use the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible w.
Our denominational hymn book is Rejoice and Sing, but we use a far wider selection of hymns, songs and music. Members participate in services by reading, acting or leading worship.
We welcome all who seek Infant Baptism, but would wish to get to know the family first and require parents to recognize the promises they will make. When there is no wish for a commitment to the Church, we offer a Service of Thanksgiving and Blessing. The Church also supports Believer’s Baptism if requested.
The Community Café has re-opened in church for tea, coffee, toasted teacakes and cake on Thursdays 11:00am 1:00 pm.
Easter: Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!
