Music at Stainbeck

Music is an integral part of worship at Stainbeck. Our primary hymnal is Rejoice and Sing, but we also source music from Common Ground, Mission Praise and Singing the Faith. The organ at Stainbeck is an Ahlborn Praeludium I, inherited from Slack Lane Baptist Church, Oakworth, following its closure in 2018. Our piano is an upright Schiedmayer model from 1900. We are fortunate in having accompanists who also play trumpet, violin, and guitar.

Hymns in the Street

Hymns in the Street is a staple of Chapel Allerton Arts Festival, held annually during the first weekend of September.

In 2022, the service was planned by the members from The Immaculate Heart of Mary (St John Mary Vianney Parish) and focused on the Pope’s encyclical ‘Fratelli Tutti’ which proposes fraternity and social friendship as the ways indicated to build a better, more just and peaceful world with the commitment of all: people and nations.

Each of our churches chose a brief passage from the encyclical, reflected on it and chose a hymn. Once again this was a happy experience for all those from our different fellowships coming together to worship and to share. There was a splendid music group led by Nick Seddon, familiar to many at Stainbeck, which greatly encouraged the singing of us all

In 2021, in accordance with COVID measures, an outdoor variant called Hymns on the Green was held on the grounds of St Matthew’s Church in Chapel Allerton.

In 2019, Stainbeck was the host church for the event on Regent Street.
