Our April event on Wednesday 20th attracted 28 After Eights (including some husbands) this was a games evening with a difference – in view of the Queen’s 90th birthday on the 21st we decided on a ‘Royalty’ theme!!!
Red, white and blue bunting and GB flags filled the room along with lots of pictures of the Queen depicting her time as the longest reigning British monarch – a lot to be joyous about!!
An ‘English’ supper was served on arrival (including traditional ham & beef sandwiches, home baked scones, sausage rolls, salad, boiled eggs, chicken drumsticks, pork pies, trifle etc etc) – a great spread thanks to the After Eights – something that we have become accustomed to over the years!!!
Following our supper we then chose a partner and played knockout darts which was most enjoyable! The three couples in the final were Cynthia Harrison & Jacqui Watts, Ann Coates & John Harrison and Brian Bellwood & David Hood with the winners being Cynthia & Jacqui – well done to all who took part and to our victorious winners!
We were delighted that a few pieces of memorabilia were on display including a picture of Doreen Elliff taken in 1985 at the 60th anniversary of the Royal Observer Corps. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh attended the Garden Party which was held at Bentley Priory, the headquarters of the ROC. Thank you to everyone who loaned the memorabilia to us for the evening.
Thanks also to all who helped preparing the room, providing the supper and, of course, to all who came along to join us at Stainbeck for this special evening!
